Vtec engagement issue
What all can cause vtec to not engage. I've checked the solenoid and it clicks when I add power. Fresh oil. When I add power and bring the rpms up it sounds like it engages. Where should I start?
What makes you think it is not working? Working normally, it doesn't suddenly "kick in" at 4500 rpm and cause the car to vault forward and slam your already terrified girlfriend back in her seat. A D-series just doesn't work that way.
If you have a stock setup with stock ECU and the oil pressure switch operational, an actual problem with the VTEC engagement would throw a code.

@White_EG1 If you read his post, thats what the op is trying to do w/o knowing how vtec and basemap works.

Y ma vtack crack stop at 10k n sondz lik 2 stroke? I know that it's not supposed to "kick" But sure can hear if it does. Of course not like a b-series. I have checked wiring, solenoid works, how should i test the oil pressure switch? I am going to run a light (only for testing purposes!!!) so I know forsure that the solenoid is not getting power. Is the way vtec engages different for different obd 0,1,2? Did obd2 use the ckf? I am thinking that my problem is somewhere in the engine.
Thanks
Thanks
My D actually dips in torque at engagement but maintains it to fuel cutoff at 7.5k rpms- prob needs tuning, were I to care.
If you're throwing a code at engagement just run the wire from oil pressure switch to the vtec spool solenoid wire like a Y.

It was most likely the knock sensor again. Replaced it and now it works. I also did the timing belt while doing it i had found that the ckf wires were getting eaten by the alternator so i replaced it to. Thanks appreciate it.
But before you stated that you had already cleared the code for knock sensor. So you’re saying that “most likely” it was the culprit again with no cel present? Thought you didn’t even have power to solenoid... Lol
My Vtec is not working after camshafts swap. I put some buddy club stage 3+ cams on my b16a2 and Vtec stop working, at least it is what’s I think because it doesn’t feel the change of power nor the sound at Vtec crossover point. I tested oil pressure (65psi), Vtec solenoid (it clicks), ecu síganlas are ok, only way to make Vtec engage again is swapping oem camshafts in.
any ideas what could be happening?
