Ok, I'm new, but please don't rip me up I've spent hours reading and I'm convinced I want to do a swap, but like so many of you I still can't decide on which. For a long time I was convinced on the H22, but considering this will be my first swap, I don't want to screw up the mounts, linkage, wiring ect. Am I better off building a B18C, or should I just pay the extra $, put in a B18C5. Since the ITR motor comes w/ a better transmission and an lsd, wouldn't this be worth it considering it will cost around $500 for and lsd + installation on a regular B18C? My goal is reliability, and I plan on doing the swap myself. I plan on throwing some mods on later, but I want to stay N/A. What is more cost efficient in the long-run staying N/A, the ITR or regular B18C? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Depends how much money you have to spend. If reliability is the main factor, go with the B18C1. If you have money then $5000 to spend, go with the B18C5.

 

I plan on spending in around 12K for everything(including car). I will probably upgrade the clutch and lighten the fly also. I also would like to run a little NOS later, I'm shooting for low 13's. Is the ITR motor less reliable than the B18C? It seems like the extra 1500 for the ITR is a deal because of the extra power, better transmission, and lsd? What do you guys think who have had experience in this matter? Are the ITR axyls better than GSR? I've noticed these swap motor kits come with ITR axyls, but do you need them? Can't you just use the stock hatch axyls?

 

id go with the b18c5 i believe the extra $1500 hundred is worth it

I'd go with the ITR. People will tell you to spend the money on a gsr and in the end you'll put out more power. I refuse to believe a tuned GSR that puts out close to the power of an ITR would be last aanywhere near as long. I have too much respect for Honda engines.

Oh, and a proper LSD will probably go for closer to $1000.

The thing with ITR, I'd tell you if you do spend the extra cash for it, stay close to stock. If you plan on souping it up you might as well go for the GSR. At least that's my opinion....durability is a great concern of mine because I don't want to have to think twice or keep track of how many times I take it up to redline. I want to know that I can do it whenever I feel the need, as many times as I want.

 

Go ITR...
'cuz if you went GSR, you'd be finding yourself upgrading to ITR parts anways. Why not get it in one shot? Also if went GSR, I'm sure one day you'd want to drop some higher compression pistons in...which is more $$$ for tear down and rebuild labor + parts + etc.. The ITR block already have semi-high compression pistons in them along with a balanced crank...and better geared transmission with LSD on top of that!

 

right on... I have a GSR in my hatch and there are many parts that I have bough tto upgrade ti to almost ITR spec.. but it would have been cheaper/better to go ITR from the start. So if you have the loot, there is no quyestion at all, go ITR swap.

 

Go B18c, if you plan on modding with 12k, you are better off saving that extra 1500 in the beginning to go toward's the build, in the long run, if spending so much money, the B18c will be the way to go.

if the money between the gsr vs. the R motor is a factor, go with the R
id say no to the h22a...they are badass when done right. im friends with a guy in sarasota that did them and made all custom mounts in house, but it is a bitch, and hard to get right

I couldnt agree more. I've been daydreaming about a gsr longblock for about a month before I woke up and realized how stupid it woud be to buy one.

I am convinced, B18C5=way to go. I made a spreadsheet comparing B18 to build to type r. The type r is 2K cheaper in the long run primarily due to the lsd(sometime I will have a link to it). I've heard it's best to stick to the same year engine to the vehicle. Will I run into any problems putting a 96 B18C5 into a 94 VX hatch?

No you'll not run into any problems putting a 96 C5 into a 94 vx. Just get the necessary parts for the swap and viola. Tell us about the swap when it's up. Peace

you mean an early, early, first run JDM ITR motor?
if you can get a 98+ ITR swap you will get the better final drive tranny.
