Default B17a running rich...not sure why

alright, first off i'd like to say that i've done a search about running rich and still am not sure whats going on with the car. here is what the searches have told me:
-could be O2 sensor
-could be a vacuum leak on MAP sensor

Now, the specs on the motor. The car is a 91 integra. The motor is a 92 b17a engine. I fully rebuilt it and put in some p30 pistons (10.9:1). Other than the pistons the motor is stock....just rebuilt. I'm running obd1 (used a jumper harness bought from Jason here on the boards) with a STOCK p61 ecu. The exhaust manifold and exhaust are stock 92-93 gsr pieces. I have an aftermarket short ram intake.

I took the car to my mechanic and he said the O2 sensor is functioning properly. He was suspect of the ecu jumper harness and/or my wiring it up....pretty much he was stumped.

So, does anyone out there have any other suggestions on things i can test or look into that may be my problem? I'll have a little time this weekend to look on the car and i'd just like to get the facts straight first.

thanks
colin

did you check your distributer timing? are you getting any codes whatsoever?

the ecu is throwing no codes.

also, the distributor timing is set to 16 deg btdc. I set it when i put the motor in. Like i said its a rebuilt motor...thus i set the timing when i first installed it in the car.

any input?

How are you messuring that it is rich? Spark plugs gunmming up? Black smoke? The P61 could have an after market chip in it?????

its blowing black smoke, black soot gets all over the rear bumper, smells like a rich mixture sometimes, plugs are black w/ some extra build up on them, and to cap it off my mechanic said i'm running rich.

the p61 is stock, it came out of my friend's car (he totalled it and i bought the wrecked car....car was bone stock except for coilovers).

any suggestions?

Obvisouly injetor size would be another item to check, or an over zelous fuel pressure regulator, Stock or after market? O2 could be messed up but I don't think thats it by itself.

like i stated already, its a rebuilt STOCK b17a, only mod is the p30 pistons and the jumper harness (not really a performance mod...but its not stock).

Injectors are stock obd1 injectors (came from the motor that i rebuilt)
all other fuel delivery is STOCK (fuel injectors are stock, fuel rail is stock, fpr is stock, fuel pump is stock).

I swapped out the stock fpr for the stock fpr off of my b18a this weekend, after the swap it ran exactly the same...still black smoke. So its not the fpr that is the problem. I'm wondering if my injectors are leaking more fuel in to the cylinders than they are supposed to (maybe i damaged them by cleaning them). Or still, maybe the O2 sensor (eventhough my mechanic said the O2 sensor was fine).

thanks. any more input?

Did you test the Injector resistor box? And is the resistor box you are using comptible, maybe sending too much voltage to the injectors?

i am not using the resistor box. I am using obd1 injectors (which do not use a resistor box).

I followed the instructions on how to swap to obd1 injectors when i did my obd0 to obd1 conversion (basically just solder the obd1 clips onto the stock harness, then cut off the wires going to the resitor box and connect them to eachother, remove resistor box).
