Car stalled, now starter won’t engage
So the other day I was driving my 99 si, b16 motor and tranny, and I down shifted pretty bad. Car jumped but didn’t stall but afterwards my check engine light came on. Dumb decision but I drove it for about another 4 days and it drive fine, no gear slipping. It did make a slight whining noise when I accelerated in low gears, and I was driving it on the freeway and I got onto the off ramp and it stalled when I pressed my clutch in. And since then it won’t start. I can hear the starter spinning but the motor isn’t turning over. Any ideas? I haven’t checked the codes yet but I’m thinking it’s my flywheel/flex plate? Not 100% sure but I need to get back to work so quick responses are appreciated, thanks

Does the pulley on the end of the engine turn when you turn the starter on? Then take the oil cap off and see if the rocker arms go up and down.

min going to be removing the valve cover tomorrow in the morning to check the timing belt. I’ll check the codes too and update yall

Take oil filler cap off and shine a light into valve cover
Have a friend crank engine and watch for movement
No movement means the timing belt could be broken
Needs further investigation
Or taken wrench or socket and turn accessory pulley to see if engine will turn or if it is locked up

"Looks good" isn't enough, you need to check that the cams actually rotate and are in time. Timing belts usually fail by having the teeth strip off where they engage the crank sprocket. You won't be able to see that with a visual inspection from above.

so I took a wrench to the crank and it turns fine. Not sure what else to look for. I’ll see if I can get to the pullies later today
