Default Troubleshooting: ODB II scanner not able to read codes on an EK9. Why?

I tried scan my EK9 with a B18C1 engine with a OBD II scanner i bought from Wal-Mart and it'll connects but it won't let me scan the ECU for CEL issues for some reason. Can anybody from this forum tell me why this is so.

Are you using the correct OBD2 ecu? If not, IT WILL NOT READ ANYTHING

Jdm ecu does not communicate with scan tools. You will need to jump the plug and diagnose it based on the flashes like obd1. If you need emissions communication it is not going to work.

An OBD1 ECU won't communicate with an OBD2 code reader.

Okay, so basically now i figured out why i wasn't able to scan and read any code with my obd scanner. It actually turns out i was running a B16A2 P30 ECU on a B18C1 engine. No wonder why i wasn't able to scan shiet. Can't really blame me though. I bought the car like it is and didn't know anything about it until now.

Now the question is that, since i'm running a B18C1 with a P30 ECU (which is the wrong ECU for the engine), does that in turns affect my engine performance?

You answered your own question.

It's not difficult to look at the ECU and determine what it is. I'm guessing you believed everything what the previous told you. That's why you should never buy a modded car.
