Got a 1995 Honda Accord Lx. Was thinking about changing the transmission fluid and put genuine honda transmission fluid. Its brownish red but it still kinda looks like transmission fluid it doesnt smell burnt. Problem is I dont know the history of the transmission service of the car. And i've been told by some people not to change the fluid as it would cause damage to the transmission if its been neglected. Also hear that early accords had tranmission problems and im afraid to **** up the transmission. I definetly know not to do a flush but what do you guys think
here's what the fluid looks like still got a hint of red in it
If the fluid is bad and has wore out the transmission, changing the fluid will make it too slick and the transmission will slip. However, leaving dirty fluid in will cause it to wear out faster. If I were you, I would change the fluid, and if it starts to slip, lucas makes an atf additive called stop slip that might help. Either way, if they cooked the atf and it wore out the trans, you're screwed either way. Just whatever you do, don't use any sort of flush, whether it's a dump in chemical or a machine flush. That's the last thing you ever want to do.
