ECM failure
OK,
I haven’t been on this site for a very long time & am having a severe amount of trouble posting this with my IPhone. I hope all this comes across. This is a failed ECM from a 1992 Accord SE. I have found and can properly replace the burnt transistor to this board, however I am not likely to believe the failure was caused by the transistor itself. This circuit controls the Air Bypass Solenoid for the intake valve. That solenoid was in the same condition. Not an issue I have ever seen occurring. I need to reach someone familiar with servicing & repairing theses. It is all part of an install with an F22A6 cam and built motor. No risk of any damage coming to the engine, but certainly don’t want to turn the key and find out that my air bypass valve doesn’t open. Anyone out there repairing these? I need some advice.
Had some triboble with file size of the pics I tried to include. This is what the board looked like at the position of the transistor. It crumbled when I touched it. Catastrophic! I have removed all the damaged leads & cleaned the board. It will take the new transistor.

The capacitors are shot and some resistors are out of tolerance get a rebuild kit off Ebay. When a resistor goes the transistor bias current is out of wack causing it to over heat and fail.
Come on! Bad resistors? Resistors are either connected & in tact or not. They don’t randomly go bad. Also if capacitors fail, they fry. It’s obvious to see. Leaves scorched marks on the board. If the entire board looks fine & all the solder joints are solid the chances of a problem with resistors is nonexistent. Can I ask how many of these boards you have repaired? I’m looking for someone with actual experience involving a scorched transistor, what they found & or what the cause was. Capacitors pop all the time. I’m all ready replacing all the larger diameter capacitors anyway. There are several of these that are known to fail. That’s why most of your tuning hardware kits come with new replacements.
