car trouble (need input)
So the other night I was heading down tramway (local road), pretty high rate of speed and mis-shifted 3 - 4 gear, the tach went way outta redline (beyond 9,000 rpm) and shortly there after the car stalled out and wouldn't start. I had it towed to the dealer (Garcia Honda) where it is currently undergoing diagnostics testing. The tech at Garcia seems to think its my cold air intake that is causing the vehicle to stall, I spoke with the service rep tonight and he told me the tech believes it is the cold air intake because the engine is getting too much gasoline. I told him the intake has been on the car for about 9 months now and I haven't had a problem with it. I'm gonna call tomorrow in the AM and speak with the tech working on it and see what he says. I still have the stock intake if they really need to reinstall it. What do you guys think? Intake or something else?..... I'm thinkin' something else.

LOL what a bouch of ****** idiots.. u probaly fucked up your motor. droped a valve, spun a bearing, fried a piston or something like that. when i did that i spun 2 main bearings... check the compression do a wet/dry comp test and a leak down test. let us know the results. also with my turbo i boosted hard and my car shut off. turned out to be every VAC line blew off. u have a engine code?
The car is still at the dealership, the car will start and run for about a minute then stall. The dealer said there were codes but didn't give them to me, I'll find out which ones tomorrow. Couple months back I was getting a code for the secondary o2 sensor, code 42 I believe. I reset the ECU and no longer got the code. Oh just for more info, its a 2000 prelude, 5 speed, 47,000 miles, mods - cold air intake.

My friend had the same problem and the delaership tried to blame it on his intake. I finally convinced him to take it to somebody who knew what the hell they were talking about and it ended up that his valves were bent.
when you start the car, is there any unussual noises or anything like that?
or does it sound normal and then just shuts off?
it couldn't be the intake, i'll tell you that...

When the engine is running it idles erratically and valve tap is louder than most h22's I've heard (definitely louder than it used to be), it'll stall after gas is given when the pedal is released. I call them tomorrow morning to speak with the tech, see what he has to say, I'm definitely not happy cause they've had the car for 2 days now going on 3, and say they are still "diagnosing" the problem, I'm thinking they have no clue whats wrong.
Theres one simple thing to do and has been said already. Do a compression test. If your numbers are inconsistant or way to low say hello to head work and some new valves at least. Inconsistant like 210, 210, 210, 140. Fire your shop there idiots and shoulden't be working on cars.
Well I spoke with the tech this morning and he agreed that the problem isn't the CAI, he told me they were getting mis-fire codes in each cyclinder and are going to do a compression test today. I imagine its gonna take some extensive work to get it up and going again
, thanks for all the input guys

dont get ripped. valves from honda around ~16 dollars each.. machine work should be around 160ish ( installing new valves, plaining the head, nurel valve guides (if necessary), and grind valve seats. all this + 175ish for upper engine gasket set+ some labor....
