I have a genuine spoon carbon fibre spoiler for my EK. I picked this up used and while it is in good condition overall there are 2 spots where the resin appears for lack of a better description worn. Perhaps it was making contact with the roof when the boot was being opened on the previous owners car. Essentially the top coat of resin is worn down to the point that it is rough and i can feel the carbon weave. I'm no composites expert, but I'm assuming this is a dry style CF as it has a more mat finish and the resin coat is quite thin and smooth unlike replica parts i have had in the past which have a thick wet glossy finish. If it were the wet glossy style carbon I would simply use a standard resin, sand and polish ( which is the suggestions i found from searching ) however I am hesitant to do this as I am assuming i will just end up with a glossy patch. I want to maintain the original appearance since it is a genuine item.
The marks are very small, and really no one else would probably notice, but my concern is if i do nothing about it then the weather may further damage the exposed fibres and make it worse.
Is there a particular type of resin i will need to use for this? Is there a special way of applying it to match the original finish as much as possible?
I'm hoping to find someone that has had a go repairing some genuine spoon parts and had a good result. Everything i have found online ends up with a glossy finish which i do not want.
Here's some pics to show the damage. flash on no flash
