Default Should I build a d15b8?

My name is Branson, I'm 16 years old, and I have A LOT of questions. I own a 1994 Honda Civic CX Hatchback with a d15b8 5 speed trans. My main goal is to have a nice street car, something with about 450-550 hp. Is it physically impossible to get a d15b8 up to that much horsepower. I was gonna swap a H22A or just anything with vtec, but I'm gonna spend more then just already taking what I have and making it into something fun. PLEASE HELP

Post your question in the forced induction forum, and lower your hp expectations for the D15B8.

could it be done..... maybe...... could it be done cheap or without being a time bomb .... probably not, if you want that much power and be reliable just do a swap like a b16 or b18. Personally I think a 400-500 hp car in the hands of someone 16 is a death wish. My car ran a 11.8 @ 117 two weeks ago and it only did 234whp on the dyno. I don’t think there are many reasons to daily drive a 10 sec car unless you are a experienced driver that respects the road

Your goals are too ambitious for a 16 year old with no/little income.

I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm trying to be honest and stop you from ruining a running car. Focus on something like a B20VTEC swap, or LSVTEC, or even just a GSR swap.

Read more, much more. Google different builds, and engine combinations, and what makes for a good street car.

I wish I could give out rep for comments like this. This is just plain good advise whether it's utilized first hand or not, it will likely help others down the road!

I respect all of your decisions, yes I am ambitious and have a high dream for my age. If I were going to swap a b20 into my hatch, with vtec, what all would I need to make a b20 vtec, and would I need a new driveshaft, axles, shift linkage, motor mounts, and ecu?

Also, I'd like a 6 speed trans. Can I get a performance build transmission that would fit a b16?

Unless you have deep pockets and/or your parents pay for all your mods, I would start out slow and read up on what you really want out of the car.

Why do you want a 6 speed transmission? Just to be a baller and tell everyone you have a 6 speed? I can tell you're excited about building something, and that's cool, that's why most of us came to this website. But you need to take some time, read every thread in the first 10 pages of this forum and the forced induction forum (including the FAQs), then start using the search function to find answers to your questions. This site has been around for nearly 20 years...there's tons of info and likely what you are wondering has already been asked, answered, flamed, hashed out, etc. You've literally gone from a 500 whp D15B8, to H22 swap, to B20 with a 6-speed transmission. Once you read a bunch, you'll have more focus and know what has already been done and what it will take.

story time: when my younger brother was about your age he drove a '90 Civic D15B2 auto. like your CX it was fine for basic transportation. But when the head gasket blew I knew better than to bother with it. I also knew that a D16Z6 would basically bolt in place of his B2 offer 40% more power (contingent on mileage and maintenance condition) and still be just as good at getting him around town reliably. it would also be inexpensive and easy to find. I think he paid $120 for it. I had a spare 5sp trans laying around but we could have found one easily for $75-100. anyway, point of the story is he learned how to build a motor, swap it, troubleshoot the inevitable issues (even straight forward swaps are sure to have some) and not give up because he got in over his head. that's the most important part the way I see it. dream big, but start small.

for your CX a basic D16Y8 swap (transmission included- it's got waaay better gearing) would be loads of fun, cheap and easy to find and well supported for future upgrades. it should bolt right in. a decent turbo kit, when you can afford it would offer enough power to be irresponsible. when that get's old, then either build a stronger D16 to swap in with a bigger turbo, or go the twin cam route. you'll already know how to swap so it'll be easy.

k swap for 6 speed. y8/z6 for simplicity. b18c= best bang for buck. b20vtecs are too prone to build and other issues. moral of the story: READ, read again, ditch the pipe dreams, and make up your mind. we'll be here when you start ******* **** up.
