Exhaust Help - 1992 Accord LX Wagon with F22B1 Swap
Hi All,
I debated whether to have an all in one thread listing all the issues this car has, but decided to stick with the current top priority at this point. I'm not sure how much effort I'll be putting in and just need it to get me through a couple more months.
I recently bought a 92 wagon with a F22B1 thats in rough shape. Needing a cheap car for work this was my fastest option. The car runs and drives however the exhaust is shot from the headers to where the cat should be. When I got the car it was leaking at the manifold, at the downpipe connection from the manifold, and it was leaking at the flex pipe (huge hole). Also leaking at a weld and the muffler connection. One of the header - downpipe bolts was missing and a substitute was put in, it was leaking. I tried putting in a new threaded post and new gasket but still its leaking. I cut out the flex pipe in the downpipe and just put in a straight pipe for a temp fix. I measured once (not twice) and cut the downpipe too short and cant properly secure it so it's useless after my tin can connector failed.
As this point I want to just replace the header and downpipe along with adding back the catalytic converter and o2 sensor. Currently there is no downstream sensor and I'm having trouble locating the sensor harness but I'm more focused on the correct manifold->downpipe->cat combination to use. I'd prefer to have it bolt in.
So my questions:
Are any of the ebay headers even worth considering? Or should I stick with used parts?
Will any 94 accord manifold downpipe from LX/EX work alright?
When I first patched the exhaust I got around 20 mpg. It started leaking again quickly and my MPG dropped. So I'd like to get it back up.
My OBD1 error codes for reference: 12,17,21,22,41

This is a work car run it stock, header kits (Megan or maybe speed daddy) are ok but sometimes need minor modifications. EX is different, its a 4-2-1 manifold, use LX. Go to the pickapart or 3bay and get a decent OEM exhaust manifold with all the proper nuts, springs,washers and studs. Get an OEM or Stone exhaust manifold gasket. Just buy a new flex pipe. On cats, I buy either flow master or eastern catalytic (40155).

I was having trouble finding a flex pipe direct fit. Any suggestions for that part? Or just go to autozone/advanced auto?
Thanks again
the B1 has a different head flange pattern/arrangement for the exhaust compared to any engine option available in '92.
'90-'93 all port spacing=====> 0-0-0-0
'94-'02 VTEC port spacing==> 0-00-0
you can use any Accord F-series VTEC exhaust manifold and i'm pretty sure '98-'02 non-VTEC will work too. you may have better luck with the later model years in the junk yard since they may have less rust and cracking. especially on the down pipe and flex pipe.
i don't remember if the wagon exhaust is longer than the others... see if a muffler shop will give you a reasonable quote to throw in some fresh crush bent stuff. go one size bigger on the tubing if you do crush bent so you at lease maintain factory power.

I know on the 94 -97 ex wagon, the manifold to the pipe in front of the cat is the same as the ex sedan. The b pipe is the same as the ex sedan. The muffler is different though because it has an s shape rob the outlet. Ymmv though for the older wagons
So I found one VTEC accord at the yard. The downpipes completely different than what is installed. It's a Y pipe without a flex. The manifold is different as well with two outlets instead of the single. The bolt pattern is correct. The one suggested: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Exhaust-Manifold-94-95-96-97-Honda-Accord-2-2L-Lx-Dx/323280753884?fits=Year%3A1994%7CModel%3AAccord&has h=item4b4508d4dc:g:2mUAAOSwdPpbDx9N:sc:FedExHomeDe livery!22407!US!-1
Thats what I have now but it's from a non-VTEC engine.
I tried getting it out but ran out of time and was planning on going today. I was also going to pull the oil pan after the manifold as mine got a small crack a couple days ago. I managed to seal it up with some rubber flex sealant.
Of course I hit a pot hole on my way home last night. Looks like my engine is hitting into the crossmember. Huge crack now. Oil is gushing out. I'll be going back today for the oil pan primarily (any car with an exposed one). If I have time I'm going to try and get the manifold out.
EDIT: Making a new thread for the issue as its unrelated to the original post and will be too off topic

Be gentle removing the pan, if you bend the lip then it probably wont seal correctly. Check it with a straight edge. Put all the correct bolts back in it. I use hondabond to seal the ridges on the ends and hold the gasket in place, do not goop it up with rtv. Read this thread and do not over torque the bolts. I have been there...

I lucked out and was able to get a good manifold and downpipe from the same car.
The oil pan has a hole punched in it they use for draining. Then they plugged it up with a rubber grommet. It wasnt leaking. The oil pan was full of water when i pulled it. I'll use some black seam around it to be safe but really bave no ther option budgets squashed.
My post about the engine mounts was never approved so ill ask here. Does anyone know which engine mount would be most likely to cause the engine to slam forward into the crossmember? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
I changed the wishbone in the front a week ago. The engine slams hard whenever I let go of the gas too quickly.
Heres some shots of the mounts
