Icon7 Speed-O Error

I picked up this 2000 Accord LX V6 and the speed-O is running fast by 7 or 8 MPH. I looked through the maintenance paperwork that came with the car and found that the trans was changed at about 100K miles with a "used" one. I have no idea where it was from. Anyway, are there multiple Speed Sensors for these trans, and if it's not a speed sensor issue what could it be? Any and all opinions are welcome.

I had the transmission replaced on my 2.3, the first time they replaced it the speedometer was off by about 7mph depending how fast I was going. Luckily they had to replace the transmission again, this time they used a BAXA instead of a JDM MAXA. The speedometer was back to normal. The gearing is different on the JDM model for the 2.3. Do you know what transmission you have installed? B7XA?

Not an expert on this or anything but I don’t think the gearing has anything to do with the speedometer, only the tachometer........ or does it?...I do imagine that a jdm speed sensor would be calibrated to work with a jdm speedometer. That said, wheel and tire size can affect Speedo readings as well. Just to be sure, are you running stock wheels?

Sorry, by gearing I meant the Gear ratio is different between the JDM and USDM transmission on the 2.3.

no need, I understood that you meant the ratios. But even still, does that affect the speedo readings? Like there are several usdm trans made for civics/integras that have different ratios. They can be swapped without problems.

I only mentioned civics/integras because that’s what I’m familiar with

On the automatic Accord the speed is read from the countershaft speed sensor in the transmission. When the gear ratio changes it'll change the reading on the countershaft, just like when you change your wheels with different sizes. So yes, at least with the accords the speedometer will read different with different gear ratios.

When I check the tires and wheels on my Accord they were stock sizes, 205-65-15 as I recall.
I'll have to look through the paperwork again and see how they described or listed the replacement trans.
Yes, it seems logical to me that different gear ratios, as well as wheel sizes, would require different VSS to keep the speed-O accurate. Mine is off by 10 MPH faster (from about 55 MPH and up) and I've never heard of a speedO being that far off from just tire size issue, so I' think it's a combo effect here.
