Default 94-97 accord drivers, does your drivers door lock if...

...... the door is open? Mine refuses to lock unlock I have the door closed and the latch in the fully closed position. I am not sure if this is normal or a malfunction.

Thanks

I think it’s so you don’t lock your keys in the car. You have to hold the door handle in the “open” position while locking the door, then shut it. Alternatively, lock it with the key or from the passenger side.

Well, thats the odd thing. When the door was closed, I could not lock or unlock the door, manually, with the lock button OR with the key. Once I pulled it out, and broke the door handle (thank you murphy, you a**hole), I did also notice when you act like you have the handle up, it works, that sdoesnt seem right. I then tried locking the the latch with a screw driver and it worked fine and normal. It would lock and unlock without having to act like you were lifting the handle. Gotta figure something out, I am driving around with the door tied to the parking brake handle . Good lord!

This was a common feature for both civics and accords of this year group. You are supposed to not be able to lock the driver door while open. (Unlatched from the frame) however if you hold the interior handle open while using the lock button or peg it will lock while the door is open. If you have power locks there is common failure of the actuators where the little rubber stop inside falls off and the actuator stops working properly and instead makes useless noise.

Well, to wrap this one up, all 4 lock actuators needed fixing, lol. I made my rounds and had to make plastic pieces/spacers for 3 of them because the little springs in them broke the original plastic tang. All 4 got the rubber vacuum hose/spacer treatment. Was a tight fit but worked well.

Hey Angry, yea, thanks, found that out after a little more playing around with the latch. There is a "L" shaped tang that hooks on a tab/post until you close the door. Not sure why I could not get it to lock/unlock before. I could have sworn the door was well closed at least once, but, I dunno.

We shall see how long these last.

Thanks all.
