Default PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

I have a 1996 OBD2 Accord. I currently bought a H22a Red Top DOHC Vtech. I bought the custom harness that Chase Bays made and the chipped P06 ECU and also the digital cluster it ran from in my friends car. I pulled my motor out this one in fed the wiring harness through my firewall that the ECU plugs into, put my cluster in. And she fired right up! She idles fine runs good, but for some reason it won’t rev past 4K. Sitting still moving, nothing. I have done everything. Internal/external dizzy, new ICM, checked all grounds. Everything has power! And still nothing! PLEASE HELP ME, me and my mechanic are both stuck!!

What tuning software does your mechanic have to scan the chipped OBD1 ECU?

Is the check engine light on? Can you scan the ECU for codes?

It has Neptune I do believe and with the custom cluster when I scan codes doesn’t show no codes. I don’t know if it eights but says there’s nothing. And how do you check codes on the ecu?

What my mechanic(friend) says is weird is that the speedometer on the digital cluster isn’t working it goes to 4MpH and that’s it and rev to 4K. The VSs has power and signal all the way to the ecu. And is putting out 5 volts? Is that weird?

From what I remember the VSS signal to the gauge cluster is conditioned by the ECU. Sensor should be putting out a 0-5v pulse to the ECU with the wheel moving. Jack up the front of hte car and spin the tire while monitoring VSS signal output. You should see the 0-5v pulses.

If you see this and the gauge is still not reading properly there is an issue with ether the ECU to gauge wire or the ECU itself. This is where tuning software to monitor the chipped ECU would come in handy.

This could be a wiring issue or an ECU issue. hard to tell from here, specially considering all of the changes you made all at once.

Well we took the VSS out and started the car and attached a drill to it to spin it and it still just went to 4MPH. If that’s the same thing as jacking the car up? And the digital cluster cords runs from the cluster and hooks up to the ecu.

And groans are my grounds correct? I have one on the drive side on the motor mount to the chassis, my main harness ground connects to the theromosta and I have one from my tranny to chassis and the ground on my battery that goes to my frame.

Ghost as well my cluster says 25.1v when I unplug my vtech solenoid the gauge on cluster will drop to 1.5v????

You got me... I've never seen anything over 14-16v from the alternator. 5-12v max at the cluster. That was with the car running with a lot of electrical load, head lights, A/C and radio with amp all running.

Well this harness chase bays made is made to run this motor it’s brand new and was over 600$. It wraps the motor pulled it through my fire wall and plugged it into my ecu. The main plug under my hood with power was the big bulk/ylw. Battery has 12.8v all my grounds are good. Everything has power and getting a signal. And for my fuel pump the relay under my dash by steering wheel I shoved a wire in that relay to another side of the relay to turn the fuel pump on when I turn my key. Would that affect anything?

What kind of signals are you seeing from the timing position sensors, cam, piston and crank (CYP, TDC and CKP)? I have seen some times that it could be a timing sync issue that causes a rev limit with no CEL.

Where are you measuring the 5v at? It is very hard to troubleshoot electrical over the internet with very little information given.

What wire (pin) are you testing and at what connector?

Number 3 pin on the VSS and number 10 pin out in the ecu and measuring 5v unplugged

And as well on my D connector to ecm pi our 21 sensor ground is reading voltage.

When you get up to 40mph and then floor it, what does the car do? What does it sound like? Have you tried to run all your grounds to the battery? This 25v, are you measuring with a good meter like a Fluke? Do you still have your cats on? Did you trace your tach wire from the dist to the cluster?

I speedometer doesn’t work go to 4MPh and that it it’s a custom digital cluster. And it’s onyl goes to 4K RPMS and just stutters out. I have a good multimeter all my grounds are good battery trans valve cover and thermostat. My VSS unplugged reads 5v and my pinout 21 I’m connected D it’s a sensor ground reads 13v.

Damn, I really have to stop doing 5 things on the internet while trolling these forums!

Did the speedometer work in your friends car? If so, was it just an unplug and then plugged into your car? If it plugs directly into the computer harness, I would map your cluster harness on paper (if you dont have it already mapped). I would then map the wires to it and finally, I would map your friends wire harness. DONT guess, map it! I would then take measure ments from your friends harness and put those on the mapped sheet you made. You should be able to find whats up from that.

As far as it goes, stuttering out, sounds like you have smaller injectors in there. My stroker did that also. I was able to stomp it and it ran hard until 4k-5k and would fall on its face. Are you using the injectors that go with that engine in stock form? I dont think it is that if your sitting still, but, its something to check to take out of the equation.

Is there a rev limiter built into the computer?
