Default Help finding Issue with car

The other day I was running AutoX in my car when it suddenly began to make noises after a run. The noise sounds like a clunking noise coming from under the hood. The sound seems to match the speed the car is going, but it only happens when in neutral. When in drive, the noise gets better and almost goes away, but as soon as it goes in neutral, the clunking noise starts getting louder. To me it sounds like an axle needs replacing, but I read that it would cause noises when turning or in drive under acceleration, not in neutral. I know the details are pretty vague, but I was hoping someone else had this issue so they can point me in the right direction. I don't want to replace an axle only to find out its a larger transmission issue.

Also, car in question is a 91 civic hatchback DX w/ a B18c Type R swap.

If i'm in gear and driving, then its not so bad. Once I hit the clutch and go into neutral, the clunking noise comes back.

Does it make the noise in neutral with the clutch released? Or only when the clutch is pressed in?

If it's only with the clutch pressed in I would think it's your throw out bearing.
