Default Overheating issue???

I did a rebuild on my head replacing all my gaskets and seals took the car for a drive and so I was just idling in the parking lot and realized that my temp gauge was on H, the car felt fine but I immediately turned it off I sat for like 5 minutes turned the car on and it went back to normal it would go up but come back down. Any reason why?

Did you fully fill your radiator with coolant? After starting her up the first time, you need to allow the car to idle and get up to temperature with the radiator cap open. During this time the coolant level will go down as the thermostat opens up.

Careful driving around on H, you can easily blow a head gasket like that.
