Default 2003 Honda Pilot ticking (video inside)

i recent purchased a 2003 Honda Pilot with 158k miles. After a Day or two of driving I noticed this ticking noise. I’ve checked the oil level, replaced the spark plugs and verified that the timing belt is not loos and was replaced along with the water pump at 87kmiles.

The only thing that happened was the two vaccume hoses on the driver sis fair I take tube facing the firewall were I hooked for a couple of days because the prebuyer idiots didn’t plug them back in after looking at the air filter. I of course reconnected them as soon as I noticed.

I was was told by a Honda technician that I ran into that this is a normal noise and not to worry, but it seems a bit loud to me.

Sounds similar to the secondary cam chain noise on my bmw. The tensioner is loose / tensioner pad is worn out. Don't know about the Odyssey.

On the bmw, some oils make the noise really bad and some make it quiet. As long as no code, it should be ok. When it goes really bad, some timing errors should show up. It is the noise of the chain. I tried the AutoRX engine cleaner and ATF clean (quick one, 1 qt ATF, 100 miles and then change oil). Then changed the oil to different brand. It is lot better now. The tensioner may be working better with certain oil / the oil it self hiding the noise. Not sure. Dont want to touch it. Too much work ..Been driving like this for 2-3 years. So far no issues.

Sounds like the timing belt tensioner pulley.

The oil had been changed recently before I bought the car. The guy who changed it at the dealer ship was previously a mechanic, so I doubt he put the wrong oil in. Most of the information I read told me to put 5w-30 and not the 5w-20 recommended for the milage. A guy at a car meet who had the same engine swapped in his civi who listened to it said 10w-30....so hmm?
