If your speedometer doesn't work or its jumping around, and replacing the VSS didnt help, your speedometer itsself is most likely the issue.
Start by opening the cluster. there are big clips on the top and bottom
Then remove the speedometer by removing these 3 screws . note that these screws are electrical connections to the speedometer. when reassembling make sure these are nice and tight, but not tight enough to damage anything.
you then need to remove the circuit board on the back of the speedo. its attached with 2 small plastic clips.
here's the fun part. you have 2 options. 1. remove the old solder from all the joints and replace it with new solder. or 2. heat it up with a heat gun to reflow the old solder. that''s the lazy way but it should get the job done.
Then you finish the job by reassembling!
Also the board connects to the speedo with these little pins. if these arent making a good connection your speedo wont work right. it wouldnt be a bad idea to add a tiny dab of conductive grease to each one to make sure they're getting a solid connection.
