AC airvent mode stuck on defrost
About a month ago, out of the blue, my ac won't switch mode from defrost to any other setting. It is a manual climate control (stock).
Did some reading up and found that the actuator motor may be caput. Located the motor under the center console and didn't see any life when trying to change different modes. Haven't done any other testing yet.
Googled for that motor and did not get any hits for my specific car (this one is for an Accord)

Looked up pricing and it is a whopper - $238.58
So, I would request input regarding my options
1. How do I test the motor?
2. If broken, can I fix it? Take it apart?
3. Is there a part number? I have no luck finding that so far.
4. If I need to replace it, can I jerry-rig the motor from another make and model (cannibalize sprockets etc. from the original motor)?
Thanks!!

I can check to see what the service manual says this afternoon, but I do know that the '96-'98 had a manually operated slider-selector (no motor, just mechanical linkage) I've heard of guys "upgrading" from the older mechanical style to the newer electric version you have in your '99. probably wouldn't be too hard to retrofit the old-style mechanical. i know you'll need the complete center dash bezel/insert (black plastic part that holds your HVAC controls and radio/head unit) and maybe some other under dash parts. if you can find an '96-'98 at a self-serve junkyard you could pull out the complete system.
