Default b16a2...any difference between a 99 and a 2000?

The reason i ask is because i came across what appears to be a 99 b16a2 ( according to the numbering on the head). I have a 2000 civic ex i plan on swapping it into and taking it to a BAR Reff to have the swap legitimized out here in California. From what i have i have read, the engine had to be at least the same year of the vehicle or newer in order to have it legitimized. Anyone with experience getting their cars BAR'D know if the Reffs will even bother looking up the year of the engine or if there is even a difference between those engines which will negate me from getting it certified?

The BAR ref will likely check the cylinder head stamping and seventh digit model year code below the engine identifier code. Even though the '99 and '00 B16A2 engines are identical, the identifiers that I have discussed will probably make you fail BAR.

Curious question, most 2000's started selling in 99, so the casting stamps are quite often the year prior to the car. 95 has 94 casting stamp on the head etc.

Would this not be the case with the B16A2, the 99 casting stamp would be found in 2000 marketed cars?

Would it matter if the cylinder head was changed to a 99 even though the short block might be a 2000? What do the 7 digits on the block identify??I guess im just hoping at this point it works out . This would really mess up my swap plans to legalize my car if this doesn't work out.

Let's use a 2000 Civic Si B16A2 as an example for this discussion: This vehicle was likely sold between 8/99 and 7/00... and since the head castings are created as early as a couple of months before final assembly, it is possible to see head castings marked from 6/99 to 5/00, so in truth... a 99 casting COULD be found on a 2000 Si, but it isn't a guarantee.

The 7-digits on the block stamping plate really tell the whole story. Regardless of what the head casting date stamp is, the first digit of the 7-digit code is the engine year which corresponds to the VIN of the car in which it was originally installed from the factory. In the case of the B16A2, a 1999 engine would have a "4" first digit and the 2000 engine would have a "5". This is a bit confusing since the EM1 Si was only available for two years... but actually, the first USDM use of the B16A2 was in the Del Sol DOHC VTEC in 1996, so that year would be the "1" and the 1997 would be the "2". It was not available in any vehicle here in the US in 1998, so there is no "3" stamped blocks.
Now, could you sell a BAR ref on a head swap if the block stamping was correct ??? Maybe... but it is a risk.

Thanks for the info everyone. I like my chances of getting it bared. Im going to make it look like a really clean swap. If all else fails, pay a little extra to "make it" smog is what ill end up doing.
