piston rings
are all B-series engine piston ring the same? im planning to put B16 pistons on my lsvtec and im going to buy piston rings and i dont know which to use......need help
are you getting oversize pistons? if no, you really should. Anyway, the non vtec rings are thicker and heavier than vtec ones. Nobody but Honda/Acura differenciates this, though. Napa thinks their the same but ive measured them. SO, get rings for a b16a or b18c any b series w/ dohc vtec.
A little insight, unless you like to blow fat *** smoke clouds out your exhaust. if your b16 pistons are not oversized measure with a micrometer the piston at the bottom of the skirt( this is where the factory measures piston diameter) at 0 and 90 degrees to make sure the piston is round, next measure with a bore gauge, the diameter of the cylinder at top, middle, and bottom, do this at o and 90 degrees also( you should have 6 measurements for each cylinder) your piston to cylinder clearance should be .001 inches with cast pistons, if it is greater than this you must bore it and get oversized pistons. also if there is tapper in the bore(the bottom is larger than the top or vise versa) the tapper can not exceed .0019 inches. Even if it is in tollerance but close to the max limit I would reccomend boring because it will still blow smoke in this case.
And remember..........never put used piston's in a fresh engine!
