vibration on start up and low idle with engine under stress (5sp)
99 honda accord 2.3 vtec 5 spd. Just had complete timing belt changed (belts, tensioners water pump etc). Now my car has vibration on start up, low idle when backing-up and when letting out clutch at low speed. On occasion it also vibrations when turning off car. The vibration only last a few seconds and then smoothes out and runs fine going down the road. From information I've read seems as though the balancer pulleys may be misaligned....What do you think? If this is the case, will it harm my engine in anyway? Can I drive my car like this with confidence? Thank-you for your help. JW
It sounds to me like one of the balance shaft pulleys it out of adjustment by a small amount. They're designed to cancel out vibrations at low rpm and idle in the larger displacement engines. They are not critical components and do nothing for harmonics. You will be fine if that's all it is.
