Default Grinding Noise at high RPM after hard cornering

I've been having an issue on track the last few track days I've attended. Car is a B16 Civic EF.

After long turns (hairpins mostly), at very high RPM (7500-8000), when I let off throttle I hear a grinding noise. I've posted a video on youtube- the sounds occurs slightly at 01:18-01:21, and then most noticeable at 01:54- 01:57.

I don't have an oil pan baffle (next on my list), so I'm thinking that could be the issue as oil would be going to one side of the pan in that instance, but my oil pressure is good after that turn (about 75-80PSI).

Any help would be much appreciated. Here's the video link:

Good question. I've heard it on a few cars, mine included, at high rpms when letting off the throttle. I have a good video of mine, but I blew the motor later that day. Is it pinging, or just tranny rattle? I'm curious to know too.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah it doesn't really sounds like pinging, it's more of a rattle. The day before this event I flushed and refilled the tranny fluid thinking maybe this was the issue, but the same noise occurred. It's kind of a mystery right now- trying to address the issue.

I am getting an oil pan baffle tacked in my pan within the next few weeks so hopefully that will alleviate the noise. Car drives fine on the rest of the track.

I dont know if its the same noise I am getting, but it sounds really similar to the noise I get, over 7,000 RPMs. I traded transmissions for a shorter gear ratio setup and the noise still remains and I can feel the vibration through my shift ****

My only guess in my case is the shift linkage bushings or a heatshield rattling my linkage. I am using mfactory bushings and I did observe more vibrations at idle, but I only experienced more noises after swapping a GSR motor into my integra.

That sounded like a brake rotor.. have you checked your pads lately?
How about your wheel bearings?

I can't think of anything inside the engine or transmission that would be making that sound. It sounds more like a dry rattle caused by vibration at high RPM. Like a bolt being shaken in a glass jar. I'd lean towards a loose clutch spring or something like that. Though in the video it seems pretty loud to be a clutch spring.

Only happens on decel.

Going to do that next time I see the car. It seems weird it would only do it on decel at high RPM though. I have heard the hub bearings in these EFs go bad quite frequently as well, so definitely going to check things on that front.

Yeah your noise sounds like a dampened version of mine. Have you had any luck diagnosing it?

No, I blew that motor on the next session, but I always suspected it was either pinging (and I really don't know what pinging sounds like still so there's that) or maybe a rattle in the shift linkage (or something in the trans). I can't imagine how it can be anything else.

What was ultimately wrong with the motor that blew up? I really hope my engine doesn't explode on the next track day. (Found the password to my old username so using this now)

Here is my video from an autox I did back in April, you can hear the noise 50 seconds in and around 1:12. Mine is definitely coming from the shifter as I was able to feel it lessen when I was doing data logs with a friend when I held the shifter with my hand.

Detonation. It was a built b18c, but I had oil getting into the combustion chamber which was leaning the a/f ratio. It was an old motor with an unknown past.

I could definitely see the washer between the shifter bushing and transmission making a noise like that if the bolt was loose.

The sound from your car came about in two of the braking zones at Sonoma.
High pitched squeels. puzzling but yet I cant rule out bearings or brakes.
Ive never heard shift linkages make that kind of noises. HMMM
Good Gawd who were you running with that day, pathetic driving from those superior HP'd cars.

Going into 3 in this car isn't really a braking zone, just off-throttle. I'm working toward hitting that full speed in my teg. I think that compression is enough to take it full throttle. Just need the guts.

Typical hpde 3... Geez I didn't realize that vid was 5 years old!

I have an N1 crank pulley, and that makes a slight whining noise at idle- never noticed it making any noise while driving, but I was thinking that sounds does sounds similar. Anyone have failure or noises from using that crank pulley?

I've had exhaust rattles and rubbing before, but I highly doubt that is the sound. It's too high pitched, like metal against metal. Only thing I could think on the exhaust would be bolts coming loose but then it would make the sounds more consistently.

Only time I've ever heard it is on track like in the video. Never on the street, never in straight lines letting off, only after hard cornering at high rpm, then letting off throttle.

How about crank pulley hitting something? I've run into that when the engine side motor mount wore out on our CRX.
