I'll check and post a photo after I get home, assuming I remember. I am bad for forgetting. I got two blocks with cranks in my garage and the timing gear right there. Just gotta remember after work.

What if I put some JB weld in there to close the gap and hold it tight in place??

JB weld is not strong enough.

On my D15B7 blocks there is not that gap or play. I took a look but didn't have my phone with me. I hope to get you a picture tonight.

The timing gear was a perfect fit on the snout.

Your timing gear looks more like the D16/D17 gears that have the crank position sensor.

It is not normal... you will need to replace that crank gear. If a new one still has a significant gap, the key slot in the crankshaft snout is damaged and must either be welded and re-cut or the crank needs to be replaced.

You are right about it having a crank position sensor, I am using a D15Z7 (D15B) 3-Stage VTEC motor.
Well I did replace the entire crankshaft cause my old crank key way got really battered and messed......so I have been struggling to find this timing gear because there are no spares here.

But hopefully they can do some sort of wizardry at the engineering shop for me to remove that play AND get the actual crank key made!!

I will keep you guys posted!!
