98 EK hatch automatic, b18b1 manual swapped
Alright, ive got a 98 hatch with a b18b1 swap in it already. the car was also an automatic swapped to a manual transmission. I'm having a bunch of issues with the car. First thing is a check engine light P1508 IAC valve circuit failure. The car runs and drives but, poorly. Idles around 4-500 RPM and the engine bogs and sputters under any type of acceleration besides lightly feathering it and will die at an idle when the engine is warmed up. while driving there is a very noticeable loss of power. I've been searching the internet for over 2 weeks now trying to find somebody, ANYBODY that has done this particular swap that can help me at all. I'm a mechanic for a living so i have all the tools i could need, and time is not an issue either because i have a company service truck i drive every day. im terribly new into the honda game and id really like to be able to drive the dang car around.
Other issues unrelated to engine performance are-
No speedometer, speed sensor has nothing plugged into it, is there any way to wire the manual trans speed sensor into the automatic harness? im assuming thats the harness my car has
Lights get brighter as RPM's increase
Please don't tell me to just google this issue. Thats all i've been doing for a few weeks now. Or is somebody knows of a specific thread on this forum and could put in a link to it that would be greatly appreaciated.

What ecu does it have? I might try a different ecu. Also clean or replace the IACV to make sure that's good.
As for the dimming at low RPM, sounds like the alternator....
You bought someone else's basically non-running project that sounds like it's about half done. Post up some pics so we can see what kind of workmanship we are dealing with. You may have a long road ahead of you....

I’m not exactly sure which ecu it has. I saw somewhere else on this site somebody had a picture showing how to identify which ecu is which in these cars and I’ll research that more later. I’ll get pictures up after work, it’s a complete hack job not going to lie. I bought the car full knowing it would be a project.

As long as you knew that going into it.... also be prepared that we may not be able to help you.
It's very difficult to troubleshoot not knowing what the previous owner did, how they wired things, etc. I've been in the same boat before. Your best bet is to find that ecu in the passenger foot well and get the code off of it first and foremost. Notice whether there is a conversion wiring harness going to it, there should be one. Then start going through all of the wiring to try to make sense of what they did.

electircal issues but mainly clean your grounds, vss is on the trans and the plug is compatible with both the auto and manual vss sensor. You might have a pinch in the wire somewhere.
Okay I finally was able to get some pictures today. Hopefully you guys can kind of point me in the right direction after looking at these. There doesn’t seem to be any tampering of the harness at all. The ecm has M/T scratched into it, I’m assuming it means manual transmission.
1. unfuck the alternator wiring. the fsm (downloadable) has a wiring schematic should you need it. this would be the cause of your dimming lights. as a mechanic, you should know a wire wrapped around a random bolt is not an acceptable ground.
2. i saw no pics of the vss, however auto and manual plugs are the same.
3. automatic civic= 3 wire IACV. you need to rewire and source a plug for a 2 wire iacv, this will correct your main issue. again, search "civic 3 wire iacv conversion"

Why are some of you so confused. I bought the car with a really
half assed swap done. I have no idea what ecu it has and wether it OBD1 or 2. And I have no idea what harness was used or what vehicle it may have come out of. There’s no type of jumper harness or anything that I can see. As for the comment about the yellow wire I thought he was referring to the wire in one of the pictures above. I’ll figure out the wiring with the iacv tonight hopefully. There was a 2 wire plug plugged into it but there’s so many unused plugs that somebody could’ve just grabbed a random plug and used it. Other than that I guess I’ll just figure everything else out on my own.

We aren't confused. You are
you'll need to download three fan, locate wires for each sensor to know where it goes. By doing this you'll educate your self on what to look for and learn yo diagnose a broken wire

so it shouldn't be a problem to identify what goes where. since its an automatic car using a manual transmission you'll have some dead plugs that go no where.
