Default 89 Sedan swap

So I have an 89 sedan that I drive on a daily basis, car (engine and trans included) only have 108,000 miles on them but because of its age my valve stem seals and other gaskets are starting to leak. I see this as an excuse to do a swap.

Getting to the point, it's an auto and that is the only real issue i'm running into with this swap, if I do a B series or even a newer D series I would like to keep it auto, I have another car that is stick and plan on getting another stick car also but would like to keep this auto.
If I did a newer D series, say a D16Y8, could I keep the current 4 speed or would I need an auto trans also. How would mounts look, connecting to the auto snifter, ect. I've never done a swap before but I think I need to give it a try, also im in Colorado so 74hp can barley get me up a hill
Another option could be a head swap? Engine has only 108,000 on it so doing a MPFI and Head swap could work but again having the auto it's hard to find any info on it.

if your car is currently auto and you do an engine swap (to another d series), then yes you can keep it auto. if you want a b series, you're gonna have to convert the car to manual.
