Default 2000 Honda Civic EX Coupe-possible engine swap

Hello y’all!!!! This is my first post and wanted to see if anyone can help me out. I have a 2000 Honda Civic EX Coupe. Engine started to run hot, so I took the head in to get resurfaced. Head has been put back on the block, however the camshaft is not at 12:00 or TDC. Is it possible to still adjust the camshaft while it’s attached to the block?
I don’t want to have it towed to Honda and have them charge me $1,000 to do the job. That being said, I was thinking of going another way and that would be possibly adding a 2000 Civic SI engine and manual transmission swap. (I currently have an automatic) If anyone has any part numbers for this swap and any recommendations for places to get engines, it would be great!!

as long as the engine hasn't been started you can reuse the head gasket so just pull the head, set it all to tdc and reattach it

then, before putting it all back together, put just the timing belt on and run a compression test

Thanks!! I appreciate the information. I’ll update this message board when I’ve finished. Who knows, maybe someone can also learn about this.

Why the heck would you remove the head if the cam isn’t at the right alignment? If the crank is at TDC, remove the spark plugs and just rotate it 3/4 turn counterclockwise so that all the pistons are level, and set the cam where it needs to be. Then, rotate the cam 1/8 a turn clockwise. Next, slowly continue to turn the crank 1/4 turn counterclockwise and the cam 1/8 turn counterclockwise. Everything will be at TDC if you do this.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I had the #1 cylinder TDC and the cam in alignment when I removed the head. When the head returned from the machine shop, the cam was at the 9:00 position. I assumed it would be TDC as it was when I dropped it off. I should have checked instead of assuming before installing.

My thoughts, no need to remove the head.

Another thing is that the cam lobes shouldve been lined. If not put some oil on them before clocking them

It was, but why would he need to remove the head to realign the cam?
