Hello guys im new i will introduce myself properly later but first i really need your help so Im Fabio 24 years old from portugal who owns a honda civic. Im currently living in the UK and now my cars MOT expired and i need to take it to the MOT which i dont have any idea of how it works for a left handed side car here. Also im think the car wont pass the MOT for GASES i think when i was back in portugal they complained about it so. I want to buy full exhaust system manifold, catalytic etc... from ebay my doubt is i dont know what engine i have.
My car paperwork says its a 1.6 ESI 1994 but the previous owner told me that the engine is a 1.5 VTEC.
but on my engine is this code P2J-1 and from my google searches i found its a D16Y8 which is a 1.6 VTEC EX 1996-2000
ive got some pictures i took from my engine and also the chassi code from the car.
Please let me know what engine i have so that i can buy the right parts from EBAY.
I want to buy the right stuff and take it to the MOT as soon as possible as i will be travelling in September back to Portugal.
The engine type doesn't dictate what "cat-back" exhaust system you need... the chassis does. Your VIN plate indicates that you have a '92-95 Civic 3-DR Hatchback that originally came with a 1.6L VTEC SOHC enigne... a D16Z6 just like we have here in the US. So you need to purchase a cat-back for a USDM '92-95 3-DR Si or similar. Your engine bay pic would indicate that someone in the past has swapped out the engine for a newer SOHC VTEC engine... like a D16Y8. The engine code to your engine can be found on the large flat plate surface just below the upper radiator hose neck on the head and left/below the exhaust manifold mounting flange. Basically, the top left corner of the front of the block. You will have a larger D1XXX and then below this a smaller 7 digit construction code. Your VIN plate pictured above shows them side by side: D16Z6 - 1711539.
