Long story short, and sorry for tech lack of "tech"...
I bought my son a 98 civic ex stick coupe, thrashed, $1200. Theft recovery. SI electric blue poorly painted (rattle can?) over Milano red. Needs lots of parts, but runs and is smogged/registered until 2019.

I bought a parts car for $500, 2000 civic LX auto 4 sedan, clean AF. Was planning on swapping the front end, key locks, everything else I can to the 98, keeping the D16Y7 for spare parts, and selling the auto transmission. So I towed it home, charged the battery, cleaned the plugs, and the 2000 LX started right up. I know it has a blown head gasket, but that is an easy fix for me (~$150).

So my dilemma is tearing down a working Honda for parts. But it's a 4 door auto, so I really don't feel that bad about it. What would you do? Continue the job and strip it for parts, or fix the HG, sell it for profit, and source new parts elsewhere?

 

4dr and 2dr have dif hood and bumpers and fenders.
swap good motor and manual trans in.
part out ugly ex coup

 

I am 99.9% certain the coupe and sedan have the same front end and rear bumper. Same OEM part #s. 96-98, and 99-00, are the same.
Anyway, I replaced the HG and gave it to my daughter. It was just in too good condition to part out.

Correct. 96-98 front stuff is the same for all models.
