Post Head Rattling

Dear Users
I have a b18c out of a JDM integra type r in my eg civic and it makes a very loud rattling on cold start from the head. It gets quieter as the car heats up although is still there.
I was curious to see if anyone had similar problems and knew what it was and the best way to fix it.

Regards
Jesse

I would've said VTC actuator but not the right car or engine, sounds like a valve clearance issue maybe?
no codes ? What's the map Voltage at ?

No, there is no codes, i'm going to take the valve cover off this weekend and check the clearance.
I comp tested the engine and it has
cyl 1 - 245
cyl 2 - 245
cyl 3 - 240
cyl 4 - 240
So i'm pretty certain it doesn't have any issues with valves sealing.

I can’t remember, but I think the intake is .006” and exhaust is .008”.

What’s your oil pressure running?

Will it destroy the engine if I keep driving it if it has valve lash whilst i wait to fix it? I need the car for work purposes.

For those having a similar problem, I found out that it was the distributor making the rattling.

I don’t think the slack in the valve lash would destroy the engine, but too tight would.

What the heck was wrong with the distributor?

HonestlyI I have no idea. I have been looking for a second hand one but they are very scarce for these engines.
In the meantime I have been driving the car regularly and it hasn't given me any issues or gotten an louder.

You aren't going to fix it by waiting for someone to give you an answer. take the valve cover off and check the valve lash and adjust if necessary. Then see if the sound went away.
