Default civic dying

so i just bought this 2000 honda civic ex a couple weeks ago from a used car dealer.. was running fine with no issues. however, today i got up above 45mph and the check engine light came on and the car started sputtering and shifting really hard. turned it off and let it cool down and it ran with no issue, but i didn’t go above 40. cut to getting off work, went and put gas in it and then the car died. oil light and battery light came on. revved it up and was fine, but now it shakes when idling at a stoplight. it idles when in park below 1000rpm but after a minute or so it idles down and dies. i’m gonna go and get the oil changed tomorrow morning and go to an autozone and have them check the battery.. is there any reason it would just start doing this?

When the check engine light comes on the computer has stored a trouble code which is usually a significant clue to what the problem is.

just took it to o reilly’s and advanced auto parts and had both of them hook it up to the computer and they said it wasn’t throwing any codes. i should mention after i turned off the car with the check engine light on it never came back on. it was low on tranny fluid so just went and filled it back up. still dying while idling tho. any ideas?

if the code comes back leave the car running and hook up the code reader.
bad ignition part(s) are the most likely culprit, might also be main relay.
no start when warmed up could also be bad coolant temp sensor.
grab a cheap haynes manual, totally worth it:

it starts when warmed up, it’s just that it dies if i let it idle or when i’m coming to a stop. also it’s now bogging pretty bad, seems like it hesitates at 3500 rpm and i have to let off the pedal for it to shift. i looked it up and people say to clean the iacv or it may be the o2 sensor. this is my first car so i’m pretty clueless on how to do maintenance but i guess i’ll look up some youtube videos

IACV is unlikely to cause the bogging/sputtering issues at higher RPM.

You need to check your ignition components and get the code(s) pulled off the ECU if possible. If you're unfamiliar with the troubleshooting process for bad ignition, take it to the shop or even back to the dealer and tell them they sold you a car that's already having issues. You may have some sort of loose "warranty" with them for a couple of weeks.
