Icon5 rotor shield redundant?

Most people get rid of their rotor shields completely or partially while installing bigger rotors, still, I guess they are not just useless pieces of tinware. I may be too meticulous about my BBK project, but I'd rather have the shields if possible. I wondered if any bigger honda shields could work (I'm installing 350z "brembo" rotors on my '17 accord coupe). My rotors are 12.8" (about 325mm) while eg. honda pilot's rotor diameter is 12.6" (320mm). Still too little. Are there any bigger honda/acura shields that could work? Is such a swap worth the effort?

I kept my factory shield with my Advics/350Z BBK.

I cut it just enough for the caliper to fit. And then just kinda bent the rest in a way that the big rotor wouldn't interfere. They still shield the ball joints and other parts from brake heat/sparks.

Its not useless. People who just toss them out probably shouldn't be working on cars.

The 04-08 Acura RL has 12.8" rotors. If you want to go with new shields, *maybe* those would work. But to install a new shield, you'll need to press the hub out of the spindle, and buy new wheel bearings...and likely a new hub...and press it all back in.

its only useful to shield the rotor from grease when a CV axle leaks or blows.

other than that its inhibiting cooling of the rotor.

if you track your car and are a heavy braker then the shield doesn't help with cooling.
