Is my Freon Charge Low?
I got a 92 accord coupe. Ac been retrofitted to r134a. I have evacuated and charged with so far 2.5 to 2.8 cans. All 12oz cans. My pressure readings are 240 high side and 40 low side at 94 degrees ambient temp at idle. My compressor never cuts off until ambient temp gets down to 80 degrees or rpm's are above 1500. My system calls for 24.5 or 30 oz. Am still not sure if 24.5 is right or 30 oz. 30 was for the previous r12 system. This is r134a. How much gets stuck in lines i wonder. I seen a tutorial where guy used 4 cans on same exact year accord for 134a system. I'm thinking i need about 6 more ounces in system but then there has to be more than 24.5 oz in system already. System does work alot better than driving and at idle i guess the pressure on high side never get high enough to cut off compressor due to the high pressure switch.
r134 takes less than r12, the formula is to multiply the r12 capacity by .9 and then multiply the next number by .75 so 30 x .9 = 27 and then x .75 = 20.25 ounces
so have someone recover what you put in there and then re-evacuate and then recharge again, be sure to evacuate for about an hour
you can buy a food scale and after setting the cans on it you will let out an amount that brings down the weight to the proper amount, so basically one can in full and then the second can will be taken down 8 ounces.
