Looking for some advice on my very nice 2006 Honda Accord Sedan EXL L4 2.4 L i-VTEC 4 cylinder (KA24A8) with 160K, bought new, always Mobil 5w20. I was setting valve clearances after head rebuild (timing chain tensioner failure, bent 4 exh. valves) when I found one side of one exh. lobe galled one side. All else looks fine, rocker arms, rollers etc. I thought I'd try to find a used cam and get by on the cheap. Salvage yards I contacted did not sell just the cam. I'm not an expert on honda engines an am questioning if there are variations of the engine, are K24... and KA24...engines different, same cams? Thus, a little uneasy buying a used cam. I can find a new OEM Honda cam for around $400. The car was also using oil at 2 qt/1000 mi. Hopefully new valve seals and Marvel Mystery Oil/SeaFoam/PB Blaster piston soaks for stuck piston oil rings might help this. Thus, my hesitation to invest too much in the vehicle.

Keep looking for a good used cam or bite the bullet and buy new OEM cam?

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
