Stuttering/surging help ... goes away with acceleration
: My '95 ex coupe recently developed a weird hesitation/stuttering issue when under very light acceleration or steady state cruising. If you're between about 1750 rpm and 2800 rpm it will buck and stutter pretty bad, to the point that you can feel and see the car lurch. If you accelerate at 1/3 throttle or more, it seems to go compleatly away, and above 3100 or about 75 mph it goes away, . Idles perfectly, and if you stop, put it in gear, and slowly add throttle, it is perfect to 1500 rpm, then this rolling stutter starts, a eight of a second of power loss per half second or even faster, over and over.... add more throttle and after hitting 2000 RPM it smooths out. Mostly only stutters when on flat and at steady speed, with no acceleration. It is not the tranny slipping, it is the engine. I just drove it 400 miles home like this. I have never experienced anything like this. Please help with any ideas of what I could check? Throttle position sensor maybe... is there a way to test this with a meter? Other ideas?Thank you....
I had a thread about this exact issue and mine appears to have been the ICM in the distributor. First it only happened with no throttle applied and started getting worse into when light throttle was applied.
