Any D-series SOHC 88-00 will work. Really the difference is what you are trying to accomplish. Common sense would be to match it to the head since the water jacket is just an open channel but if you're considering compression then thickness of the gasket is the deciding factor.

Thank you. I bought an eg coupe and it came with a a6 block and a y7 head. Im pretty sure it has a bad headgasket. My bro in law gave me a z6 head he had and figured it throw it on for vtec. The car came with a chipped p28 and has vtec wires going to the bay. Just wanted to make sure i used the right gasket when i put the new head on. Im going to send the head to a machine shop to get checked and whatnot. Not looking for anything fancy. Its just a daily for my gf.

If that's the case you can try to play with a compression calculator if you want to get it as close to a stock compression ratio for a Z6 but really any of them should work (I don't think the difference in resulting compression ratios varies so much that it'll make a huge difference). I'd personally try to get one that's MLS vs composite material.

If you can, have the block's deck checked for flatness and machined if needed as well. I know it's a pain if you're just planning to throw a new head on, but I've had two Hondas where I only replaced the head gasket and had the head checked/machined, and it blew the head gasket again in short order. It ends up costing more, because the head needs to go back to the machine shop and you have to buy another new head gasket. I swore this time that if I'm doing a head gasket, the block's deck is at least being inspected for flatness.
