Default Rsx type a with base motor in it

i have a 2006 rsx type s that has at some point had a base motor put in it. They put the motor in but put they keep the intake manifold, 6 speed trans, and the factory cpu. Now the car runs “ok” but the vtec kicks in at 5800 and when it does it runs pretty good, however between 4000 and 5800 it is a turd and I think lowering the vtec crossover point would make it run much better. So my question is what is the easiest and cheapest way to adjust the crossover point. I know a the “kpro” and it is great however I don’t have 1700.00 to spend on that right now. So any help would be greatly appreciated

In what world is kpro 1700? You must be thinking of getting a new ECU supplied from them. You can buy the recent v4 new from hondata for $800ish if you send them your ECU, or junkyard one and send it in.

Flashpro might be a more economical option for you though. Woops, no flashpro for RSX's

From my understanding I have to send in a 2001 to 2004 ecu. I would have to buy that too.

That is correct. An ECU can be had from my local junkyard for $75.

Thanks for the info, that makes the kpro much more feasible. Also do you think I’m right about lowering the vtec crossover point(and if I am getting a kpro tuning for the correct fuel for the motor that is in it) would make the car run better?

The bogging down is likely due to the difference in Vtec activation type (intake only on the base, vs intake and exhaust on the type S, smaller angle of intake phasing) and that is probably messing up fuel charts around your described RPM range. I think your problem will resolve itself once you inform the computer what engine is actually in the car, and what type of Vtec is equipped.
