Default 99 EX 5 SPD Trans Rebuild Kit PN BK386WS

Hey HT,
I bought a trans rebuild kit off ebay and the bearings dont fit!!! Asking if PN BK386WS is the correct rebuild kit for my D16Y8 5 Speed? Dont want to re-order the wrong kit. From what I can tell it is just making sure.

Much Appreciated.

The EX 5-speed manual gearcase is different, with most of its bearings larger than the DX/LX. They seem to call this a "70mm" transmission, from the OD of the outside input shaft bearing. That bearing is 65mm in a DX.

And I have not found a place to buy a kit of EX bearings. Many of them seem to not be available singly either.

thanks mk378. Here is what I found on Ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-S20-S...gAAOSwBLlVW5GD

Or do a search for BK386WS.

Im pretty sure its the right kit but just wanted a little re-assurance.

Thanks,

That looks right. It shows a roller bearing for one of the ones on the outside end of the output shaft, while the DX/LX has two ball bearings there.

That particular bearing is discontinued by Honda. Right now I have a DX transmission in my '94 EX, and it works fine, but when I have the money I'm going to rebuild the EX one.

All,
Its finally on the road and couldnt be happier with the outcome except one minor issue.
The input bearing was totally shot and thats an understatement. The plastic bearing cage had completely disintegrated! There were pieces all thoughout the trans. I litterally pulled the inner race out of the bearing and all the bearings fell out! It was crazy! Dont know how it even managed to survive the 400mile trip I took when bought it. It was ready to blow! But. Its fixed! I bought a trans rebuild kit off ebay and everything fit perfect. I replaced all the seals and all the bearings in the trans for $150 basically. One bearing from Honda was going to be $98 plus tax! What a find thanks to my Autozone Honda officionado.

All the things Ive done to car at this point:
Cap, rotor, wires, plugs
distributor oring
Vtec Orings
Replaced all the exhaust valves and lapped all valves in (Burned a valve when driving on its maiden voyage; see my other post)
Head gasket
Intake gasket
PCV valve, Oring on the breather box and PCV valve grommet
Rear Main Seal
Clutch pack with clutch, pressure plate, thow out bearing, pilot bearing and hand resurface flywheel
oil pan seal
passenger side CV axle
all new bearings throughout transmission
All new seals throughout transmission
Used RS Limited Pro-Comps with practically new Falken tires $100 thank you Craigslist
Lots and Lots of cleaning

That minor issue is I still have an oil leak and I think its coming from my drivers side axle not seated all the way in. An easy fix but anoyning I have to pull that side apart now. I did not remove the drives hub and remove the axle while doing the transmission work but it was difficult to seat the axle which is why I suspect it not being seated all the way.
