hi all
so, i was driving along, nothing weird seemingly going on. slowed down and stopped for a light. turned right and started to pull away again and heard a bang. car stopped accelerating. i coasted into a parking lot. if i put it in park from drive, it made some uglyish noises. grinding kinda.
engine runs fine. if i shut the car off and let the engine stop and then put it in park and then start it up, theres no noises. just runs like its in neutral. if i then put it in gear while its running, no noises at all. if i try to put it back in park while its running, the noises occur again.
my wife came to pick me up and right before i left i took a look over to the area where the bang occured and saw something lying on the shoulder.
see images below. i believe this is some type of CV joint?
so i believe what i have is the area 'A' below in yellow. (that original pic i found on this site somewhere, its not my parts)
do i have to replace just part A? A and B? A and C? ABC?
do they sell D (the whole thing)?
is there a part between A and B or is that shaft part of B?
is this easy enough to replace on my own? (i managed to change out a cam shaft on my 95 mustang on my own with the internet to help if that matters)
if i take it to get fixed, what am i looking at in terms of $$, ballpark figure if i have to replace the whole thing (D)
thanks in advance for all your input!
so, looks like this thing is the CV axle, and it costs like $70ish at autozone if im looking at things correctly.
probably i will just take it to a local shop to repair.
feel free though to add any input still.
thanks again
