1993 accord wagon (auto) tanny issue???
I am in the midst of a vehicular crisis and need a vehicle, so a friend offered his 93 accord wagon to me for free and said all I need to do is fix it, great..... cant get any better than that, right?
Anyhow the issue, this was his everyday driver to work and one day on the way home, the check engine light comes on and the car comes out of gear, no slippage just seems as if its in neutral, the fluid is good, it doesnt smell burnt or any leaks or anything out of the ordinary. The kicker, if he puts the car in park, shuts the car off and starts it back up he is able to drive for a short distance before the same thing happens, check engine light pops on, car pops into neutral etc...... Rinse and repeat pretty much, LOL.
He brought it to a transmission place near where the issue first happened because he thought the tranny went or something and they told him that he needed to replace the trans axle (????) and a host of other things, but the funny thing was that the car was in the exact same spot he parked it in when he trailered it there and their was actual road grit around the car after a week of sitting there so the "tranny guy" obviously never looked at the thing.
Now I did some reading and found a little info on the TCM and how that it could be bad, and or a solenoid or whatever. I was just looking for a little confirmation from some of you with some actual knowledge and not having to deal with the transmission place's agenda if its definitely the TCM and not something major, or is there a way for me to find out if thats it (funds are super limited as I'm sure you can tell that as I'm looking for a free/low cost car) which one of these parts and if a normal person with better than average mechanical skills could change out these parts.
Thank you in advance, any help anyone can offer is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it could be the TCM. When my 92's computer went, that's exactly what it would do (go into like neutral, and the D4 light would go out). I think if you opened up the TCM, you would find dark spots on the Printed Circuit Board, where the capacitors have leaked on it. I think that would be confirmation that it is at least part of your problem.
PS: It's definitely not a 2003 (which you put in the post title) there are no wagons from that year.

You'll get better answers if you move this to the 93 forum area. I'm sure there are plenty of guys here too that can help too, but I'd move it.

Re: 2003 accord wagon (wellinghurst)
I hope you figure it out and let us know the result.
I wish Honda still made wagons for the U.S. market. I have an 94 EX wagon with almows 200K on it. It is a great little car. I gave it to my dad and it came back to me when he died. I gave it to my daughter and it came back to me when she graduated school. It just runs and runs and haul as much as many SUV's inside. Once you get it together, you will love it. It is showing a little rust, but that gives it a little character and makes me less likely to worry about it.
Oh, it is much tougher than my 03 Accord V6 coup.

Re: 2003 accord wagon (wellinghurst)
Yeah I made a big screw up on the year, its a 93 not an 03, LOL.. He has another accord thats an 03 and he gave me that year when I asked.
I do appreciate the help though.
Can a mod move this to the 1990 to 2002 section please and change the year in the title?
