1994 Honda Civic Dx Hatchback
I have a 1994 eg stock no VTEC And was wondering what kind of engine I had it is not an si either I believe it is stock I wanted to know what engine can I swap it out with that would be compatible and also be smog passable.
The DX hatchback has a D15B7, most D series have subtle differences in how the hook up from year to year even with the same exact engine. So if you swap in another OBD 1 D series that is not your exact engine it will be close but not exact.
If you're looking to swap in a B series, you'll need every bit of wiring and sensor off of that B series if possible, it will not B direct. Same goes for going with a OBD2 D series, the wiring will be quite different, even the intake and other little bits will be different.
Also vast majority of engines past emissions if they are in good running order, you will fail if you're engine is running poorly because it out of tune (numerous possibilities), it has low compression, or burning major oil.
BTW if you look at the top left of the engine block (left exhaust manifold) you'll see the engine Identification stamped there.
