Power mirrors for hatchback!
Hey guys, ever thought about power mirrors only to realize the civic hatch was the ONLY model never to get them? Here’s a simple(ish) solution. Go pick up a set of EX sedan mirrors, you will most likely notice the base has a different angle and the 3rd bolt doesn’t line up right.
However, if you remove the glass, you’ll find a Phillips screw holding the glass base on, there is a motor, pivot, and 2 threaded pushrods fixed into the housing. Take out the 4 screws holding the motor, 1 screw holding the wire loom clip, 4 screws holding the frame into the housing, 3 screws that hold the housing onto the base, 2 screws holding the frame to the base of the housing, and the whole assembly comes apart. If you pull apart the hatch mirrors (similar process, but the glass back pops off and there’s a 3-jointed arm attached to the handle) simply pry the rivet holding the handle linkage off of the frame, and swap the power motor and harness into your manual frame. Then re-assemble in reverse of disassembly. If you happen to break the glass, (Which for my first pair was necessary as it wouldn’t pry out of its backing in one piece to get to the pivot screw) you can easily order new glass. They’re like 10-15$ a piece. Then wire up the mirrors with the pigtails and switch you should hopefully have snagged with the mirrors, and you have FACTORY power mirrors in a hatch!
As for the inside covers, since there were no hatchback power mirrors in the us, there were no little cover panels. I simply ground down the back side of the opening for the manual handle, put masking tape on the back, filled it with fiberglass reinforced filler, sanded it smooth and painted the pieces black.
Havent gotten to the wiring part yet, but will post that when I get there.
