So, I need to remove the Front Wheel Hub.
I've removed the rotor,
and I can't figure out for the life of me how to remove the Wheel Hub.
Every video I watch shows the removal of bolts (I can never find anything that looks like my 2001 Honda CRV), but I don't see any bolts holding this in place.
Do I just bang it out with brute force?
I just want to make sure before I try!
Unfortunately, wheel bearing work on our first-gen (and probably subsequent) CR-Vs isn't as simple as spinning out a few bolts and removing the unit. The hub is press-fit within the center of the bearing, and the bearing itself is press-fit within the knuckle. There are 2 ways to pull the hub out of the bearing. The first is to use a slide hammer. Sometimes that'll work, sometimes time and corrosion will make it exceedingly difficult to pull the hub from within the inner diameter of the bearing. If that's the case, the second way to remove the hub is to take the knuckle off the vehicle and press the hub out from behind with a hydraulic press. In either case, the inner race of the bearing will remain on the hub. If you're replacing the bearing, you'll have to remove this inner race from the hub which can be difficult in-and-of itself.
I took off the knuckle, brought it in to NAPA and for $30 they pressed out the old wheel hub, and then pressed in the new wheel hub and the new wheel bearings.
Yeah, sadly I find the slide hammer method works less often than it doesn't, but it's always worth trying in the off chance that it comes through. I'm glad you got sorted out though, and 30 bucks to do the press work isn't bad at all. Be glad you're not working on a late 90's Accord! For some stupid reason Honda decided to press the rotors between the knuckle and the hub. Horrible design.
