Civic DX Cluster Swap, Help??
Hey guys, I'm new to the Honda and Forum thing, and I'm wanting to do a small first modification to my car. As I'm sure you all know the EF (ED6) DX Civic's came without Tachometer's, and I was wanting to know if swapping in a Civic Si or a CRX cluster was a plug and play sort of thing, or if it was more in depth than that, I'm wanting to make it look factory as my car is mostly stock, and as a side note, or rather question, did EF DX civic's ever come with 5 speed's? Because my car has one and it was advertised as a 4 spd when I bought it and the previous owner didn't even realize it had a 5spd haha, but thanks for your time and answers.

yes they came in 5 speeds and as far as the cluster question goes
i just answered it in my build thread

all civic DX's came with the D15B2 engine and 5-spd (or automatic) transmission - the ones with the 4-spd and no tach (among other things) were the STD model which also had the D15B1 engine
Well I appreciate the info, but call me an idiot, but I couldn’t find it. Could you or someone just respond on this thread? I feel like I’m sounding rude, but that’s not my intention whatsoever. I just need to know what has to be done and what cluster to get, I’m assuming and auto cluster won’t work so I’ve already marked that out, plus I don’t want the PRND21 in the middle of my cluster. I just want the standard ED6 Cluster with the Temp, Gas, Speedo, and Tach over the one with all of the former besides tach. I’m sorry to annoy you all if I’ve done so, but I’m just starting out and I’m not wanting to waste any money on a part that doesn’t work with my car, but again, thanks for reading and helping out.

hay man no worries
heres your basic info then
on our cars we have the two different types of clusters
88-89 clusters and the 90-91 clusters
and yes a auto cluster works on a 5speed cluster and vise versa
the cluster wiring is different between the 88-89 and the 90-91
and the cluster shape between the two are also different
so for example if you have a 89 civic then the clusters that work for you are the 88-89 clusters
but if your set on having the 90-91 in your 88-89 civic
there is a wiring convertion you can do and make it happen and the convertion works both ways
if you want pictures
you can look it up on google or click on my link here

if you have anymore questions feel free ^_-

Yea I have a 1990 Civic, and I’m wanting the ‘90-‘91 cluster. So if I’m understanding correctly it’s just plug in and go for it? Correct me if I’m wrong but if that’s the case then that makes my mind rest a lot easier. I’m wanting to do this car right and not hack anything up too bad haha, but thank you so much, I appreciate it a lot.
