Gasoline in oil please help
i was draining the oil and i didnt think it looked right so i took off the valve cover and noticed that the oil smelled strongly of gasoline. The oil looks really light. Just some background on the motor it was sitting for about 8 months and i just drove it around a few miles before i drained it to check the oil for the first time. I dont know what the cause is or how to fix it
The only way I can imagine you getting gas in your oil would be if your injectors got stuck open, you parked on a hill, and gas just drained into the cylinders while it sat for months. Or maybe it dumped gas into one cylinder that is not firing when you went on a test drive. I'd just do an oil change and move on, provided the engine runs smoothly.
You might need to re-seat your rings after sitting. A few drops of Marvel Mystery Oil in the spark plug holes, crank for a minute with no plugs to disperse oil, let sit over night. Put in fresh plugs, start, let idle for about 15 minutes. Expect a bit of white smoke from burning MMO. Change your oil again.
