I took off the valve cover on my CRV B20Z engine to check the valve clearance and I noticed whoever worked on the engine last must have refitted the rear/inner plastic cambelt cover incorrectly. The top edges are pushed into the cam pulley and the pulley has worn into the plastic, the lower part of the cover looks fine though, it seems the top part has caught on a lip or similar and wasn't properly seated when fitted.
Does anyone know why that would happen and if I can correct it without taking the cambelt and pulleys off?
And from what you can see does that cambelt look overly worn, it was supposedly replaced 40,000km ago
it isnt in wrong, its just old and it warps. looks like whoever changed the timing belt didn't replace it.
Is that a common issue with these engines?
I've never seen that happen before and the only way that I can see it getting warped that much is due to incorrect fitment of the cover.

Anyone have experience with the cambelt covers warping on these engines?
Other than if the engine has been badly overheated I can't see why it would happen but I'm open to being corrected, it's only the tips right at the top that are bent in on mine, otherwise the covers are straight which is why I'm assuming fitment issues.
I pulled it all off and it's obviously warped due to heat, otherwise it's fine and I got my heatgun out and got it straight again.
Is there anyway to avoid the cover from getting warped?
I'm planning on applying RTV heat resistant silicone between the head and the cover where it's prone to warping and hopefully that'll help to keep it in place and not start bending away from the head again. Could I run into any issues doing that?
