Should I pay a shop or DIY?
Should I pay a shop to do my swap or should I do it myself. The swap would be a b18c5 into a 1993 Civic EX. Yes its a coupe. I talked to a shop near to me and they said they would be willing to do it but like always it will cost some greenbacks.
just spend the money u have saved for paying someone to do it.
and buy all the tools you need. with air compressor and impact gun.
then do a couple friends swaps for a little fee. and you got your self free tools.

if you have any basic mechincal knowledge, then you can do the swap yourself. Most likely in your case, you'll have to have someone else wire everything up, unless you have a wiring conversion harness or an OBD1 engine. But, get a Haynes and follow the procedures in there as to engine removal and do the same for installation. I pulled my first engine after my Sohphomore year of high school(350 in my truck) and built it, dropped it in, and it's still running perfect now 3 1/2 years later. Did my first B16 swap into my friend's 94 Civic last Summer and it was a piece of cake
DIY.
I have done four by now, in one year. Really, it's easy once you get the right tools and understand the process and a few sneaky tricks. Just read up on the threads in the Hybrid forum.

Swaps are easy, ive been involved in many, b18c into 4th gen hatch, h22 into 95 Accord, h22 into 96 civic, b16 into 5th gen, the mechanical part isnt hard, its the wiring that can be difficult.
I did my own swap and I've never even taken an axle out before that. Never even done an oil change. Didn't even use a Helms manual, and did it all by myself in two days.
This isn't hard stuff. You'd be losing a ton of money paying someone to do it.
All you need is an engine lift and a couple jackstands.

A. If you don't know much about cars, doing a swap will make you learn. You will value the swap and your car much more if you do it yourself.
B. Shops cut corners. DIY, it'll be a much better finished product, and plus if something goes wrong you won't have to take it back to a shop to have it fixed. You'll be able to fix it yourself.
