AC Compressor Growl. How likely is it that my system is contaminated?
I have a 2007 Honda Civic LX. The AC compressor makes a growling noise when engaged but still makes cold air just fine like it always has. I am certain the sound is coming from the AC compressor only and not from a blower motor or any other component on the vehicle. I have the mechanical aptitude to replace the compressor, put a vacuum on the system, check for leaks with manifold gauges, and recharge the system after the compressor is replaced. What I want to know is how likely is it that my AC system has been contaminated by my failing compressor (requiring changing of more than just the compressor and possibly the drier)? Like I said, the AC system still works and makes cold air perfectly, the compressor just growls.
are you sure it's not just the pulley bearing ?
if youre sure its internal, you will need to swap out the condenser as well as the drier, which is always on the replace list when opening the system
