Default Diff B16 and B18 Cranks

Like the post says. Already have a B18 and getting a B16 to build a LS/Vtec. I'm gonna use the B16 pistons on B18 rods was wondering which crank is gonna be the best for me to use. I have both and believe that there both good haven't broke them down just waiting for it to get a little warmer. Just info for advance prior to install.

Use the ls crank! without it all you have is a torqueless b16. As for the b16 pistons, they are used and worn in to the b16 block that they came out of, if you must use them, using a micrometer and bore gage measure each piston and cylinder, if you have more than .0015 inches of clearance don,t use the b16 pistons, If you do you'll be blowing smoke Good luck!

what about the crank gurdle? Heard not to use the B18 at higher RPM, would the B16 be best suited for this, or will I need a B18C gurdle.

Yea just use the LS crank... I'm just sayin this so don't even listen to me. Lets say you were gonna use that crank in your LSVTEC with standard bore B16 pistons. You would have a really high rod stroke (higher than the B16's 1.74R/S near perfect ), and the the motor would still have a displacement of a B16 = 1595cc... I'm not saying anything bad about your idea, just sayin what would happen... hehehe Latez

Yeah got ya now about the crank. Cann't use the B16 gonna shorten the stroke too much. Calm down It was just an idea. Truthfully didn't know what would happen just a question, dont know much about stroking and destroking engines still new to this idea. Also did find out B16A and B18A dont have crank gurdles so gonna have to use a B18C or a Z10

77mm vs 89mm. Why bother with an LS/VTEC if you are gonna use B16 crank.

the only way to really get it right is to use the ls crank and get longer rods and custom pistons with the wrist pin moved up as high as posible to get a useable rod ratio again. The way it is now the rod angle at the bottom of the stroke wants to scrape the side of the block as it comes up because the rods are to short and piston wrist pin are to low. That is just a poor mans way to stroke the motor. you motor wont make near the power top end and the realiability will go down the drain. Just get b16 block sleeve it and go ultra big bore like 87 mm and have fun i bet you make more power that way. bore does more than just stroke. just ask any of the all motor freaks out there!!! see ya
