2010 CRV EXL CAN problem
Hello everyone I am a new member and am looking forward to your help.
While crossing a very long bridge (24 miles ) the VSA light came on. Roughly 20 minutes later my car began to decelerate from 65 mph to 30 mph while in cruise control. I exited cruise control, and manually increased speed back to 55 mph. I noticed that the drive light ( "D" light was now blinking on the dash and the VSA light remained on. The engine labored and I was unable to maintain 55 and dropped speed to 35 mph. I exited traffic and had the vehicle towed to a respected garage. The following error codes were downloaded:
U0029-02 F CAN malfunction
86-1 CAN relation failure
B1234 Short in the air mix control motor
The garage owner explained that the error codes were too general for him to troubleshoot. After clearing the codes, he drove the vehicle roughly 10 miles with no lights appearing on the dash. Since then I have driven an additional 100 miles without incident.
I spoke with a local Honda dealership - his recommendation was to drive until a dashboard light appeared.
Question: Where do I start in troubleshooting intermittent CAN problems ?

You will need an automotive Can-Bus signal generator to enable you to test each circuit.
Regarding your error codes my information differs to that supplied by your garage – Please note I have no way of confirming to correct data for your specific issues, however I hope the information below helps you.
CAN ERROR
86-1 = Faulty Seatback OPDS sensor.
OPDS = Occupant position detection sensor.
B1234 relates to a Mirror Switch Invalid Code.
I have no idea what U0029-02 codes means.

The term “intermittent failure” means a system may have had a failure, but checks OK now. If you cannot reproduce the condition, check for loose connections and terminals. Also check for ground and power connections related to the circuit you are troubleshooting.
DTC U0029: F-CAN Malfunction (BUS OFF (Engine Control Module (ECM)/Powertrain Control Module (PCM)))
Intermittent failure – The system is OK at this time.
DTC 86-01: F-CAN Bus-off Malfunction
Intermittent failure – Check for loose terminals between the ECM/PCM Connector A (49P) and the VSA Modulator-Control Unit 46P connector.
DTC B1234: A Short in the Driver’s Air Mix Control Motor Circuit
Intermittent failure – Check for loose wire or poor connections on the driver’s air mix control motor circuit.
